Yellow autumn trees and boat near Lake Dunstan New Zealand

Picture of a red boat on an inlet of Lake Dunstan surrounded by mountains and yellow trees in Lowburn during autumn in Central Otago New Zealand.

The New Zealand picture below was taken near a small village called Lowburn, which is situated not too far from Cromwell in Central Otago on the South Island of New Zealand.

Lowburn is not a large place, which is why I call it a village – there are just a couple of houses there. Nearby Cromwell is much larger, but not large enough to be called a city; it’s a town. You can drive from Cromwell to Queenstown in about 40 to 45 minutes. Queenstown is large enough that it can be called a city.

The water seen in the photo belongs to an inlet that is part of Lake Dunstan. Lake Dunstan is a man-made lake in Central Otago. Its shoreline is dotted with yellow trees during autumn in New Zealand.

A common recreational activity for many New Zealanders who live close to water (rivers and lakes) is boating and fishing. Therefore, it is not uncommon to see someone on a boat early in the morning hours fishing on Lake Dunstan; it is a very peaceful time to be on the lake.
